Friendship Day

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” – C.S. Lewis

Friendships bring laughter and joy to those special moments, a shoulder to cry on and a hug when needed, or a partner in crime during life’s hijinks.

There are famous historical friendships…

  • J.R.R. Tolkien & C.S. Lewis – Both were university professors at Oxford and famous writers. Tolkien helped convert Lewis to Christianity and Lewis pushed Tolkien to finish The Lord of the Rings.

  • Groucho Marx & T.S. Eliot – Marx wrote he and Eliot shared three things in common: 1. An affection for good cigars 2. Cats and 3. A weakness for making puns.

  • Thomas Edison & Henry Ford – Both had vacation residences in Fort Myers, Florida. Edison contributed technology to Ford’s automobile and was active in Ford’s business until his death.

And famous celebrity friendships…

  • Matt Damon & Ben Affleck - They met when Matt was 10 and Ben was 8 eventually becoming screenwriters for Good Will Hunting and actors in multiple movies.

  • Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Jr & Frank Sinatra - Three members of the infamous Rat Pack, these three performed together in sold out shows in Las Vegas.

  • Oprah Winfrey & Gayle King - Besties since their early 20’s in Baltimore.

The friendships that matter the most are the ones you have with your besties.
